Royal Visit 1939

Here's a CBC archives link to the Royal Tour of 1939, describing when the King and Queen came for their first tour of Canada, starting at Quebec City. They sailed on the Empress of Australia, the same ship Emil and Adolina came to Canada on in 1929. They also docked at Quebec City.

Only recently has it come to light that that royal tour was used as a cover to transfer the British Gold Bullion to Canada, because of the danger of war qith Germany. The British government bought the Empress of Australia in the late 30s and converted it for this tour. Family history is interesting, isn't it.

Eighty Years - Something to Celebrate

2009 represents a landmark 80 years since Emil Neumann decided to leave Russia for a new life in Canada. He and his wife, Adoline, arrived in Canada in May 1929, initially settling in Saskatchewan where they did farm work. Less than a year later he moved to Montreal, and then in 1946 moved to southern Ontario to buy a farm. I started this blog so that Emil's descendants and others of his relatives that owe their Canadian experience to his leadership, can reflect on his decision and celebrate the good life we have had in North America. Please share your stories and experiences.
